To enable or disable the vertical and horizontal rulers in a Microsoft Word document, follow the instructions below. Please go to the Microsoft Word version you are using for details on how to achieve this.

The Microsoft Word 2013 and 2016 versions
Select the View tab, then check the Ruler box to see the horizontal and vertical rulers.
The Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 versions
In Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010, the Ribbon is utilized in place of the file menu. The rulers can be turned on and off using the methods listed below.
Click the View Ruler icon at the top of the right vertical scroll bar as shown in the illustration.
You may also choose Ruler by ticking the box next to the View tab.
The previous versions of Word, OpenOffice, and other word processors
Choose View from the drop-down menu at the top of Word.
