When you press the Enter key in Microsoft Excel, the cell pointer automatically shifts one cell down.
The steps listed below can be used to alter this behavior.
When you want the cursor to travel to the right because your spreadsheet is more horizontal than vertical, changing the orientation is advantageous.
Microsoft Excel 2007 and newer
- Open Excel.
- Select Options from the File menu.
- Change the Direction under Advanced by clicking Advanced in the Advanced Windows.
- Change After pressing Enter, move selection.
When you press Enter after doing the aforementioned steps, the pointer will travel in the desired direction.
Microsoft Excel 2003 and older
- Launch Excel.
- Click Options after selecting Tools.
- Change the Move selection after Enter setting by selecting the Edit tab in the Options box, as shown below.
- Click Ok after changing the direction from down to right, up, or left.
When you press Enter after doing the aforementioned steps, the pointer will travel in the desired direction.
