- Open Word with Microsoft.
- Click the Page Layout tab.
Choose the Design tab in Word 2013 and 2016 instead. - Under the Page Background group, select the Page Borders option.
- If it isn’t already selected, select the Page Border tab in the Borders and Shading box.
- The Box is the option to choose if you want your page to have a square border.
- Select the border style you want to see on the page, which can be solid, dotted, or dashed.
Select the color and size of the border.
To select an artwork to act as the border, click the downward-pointing arrow next to the Art drop-down menu.
Since borders are by default applied to the whole document, each page has the same border.
By selecting the down arrow next to Apply to, you can select the first page alone, the chosen page, all pages besides the first page, and other options. - Once you’ve made all the border selections you want to utilize in your document, click the Ok button to apply the border.
