How to add a header or footer to a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint

I would like to say hi!

In notes, pages, and printed handouts in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 and subsequent versions, you may put a header.
You may add a header and a footer to your slides.
These components are modified separately from the main slide area and remain at the top or bottom of each page or slide.

They may contain custom text, the slide or page number, the date and time the slides were made or released, and other information.
Pages have headers at the top, slides have footers at the bottom, and both may be utilized at the same time.

PowerPoint 2019, PowerPoint 2016, PowerPoint 2013, PowerPoint 2010, and PowerPoint 2007 are all compatible with these instructions.

Add a header or footer

  1. Click the Insert tab in the Ribbon.
  2. Click Header & Footer under the Text section.
  3. Check the boxes next to Date and time, Slide number, and Footer in the Header & Footer window’s Slide tab to add those items to each slide’s footer.
You may input personalized text for the footer by selecting the Footer option.
You may only add components to the footer of slides.
For slides, there is no header.
Only printed handouts and note pages have access to the header.
  4. Click the Notes and Handouts tab in the Header & Footer box to add components to the header and footer of notes pages and printed handouts of the slides.
  5. To include those components, check the boxes next to Date and time, Page number, Header, and Footer.
You can input your own text for the header and footer by using the Header and Footer settings.
  6. Choose Apply to All to apply the chosen header and footer components to all slides, notes pages, and printed handouts.
  7. If the Insert tab in the Ribbon is not already chosen, click it to bring up the Header and Footer window once again so you may make more changes to the header and footer.

How to remove the header or footer

Use these procedures to delete a header or footer.

  1. Choose the Header & Footer option from the Text section of Ribbon’s Insert menu.
  2. Uncheck the box next to each element that is presently selected on the Slide tab.
  3. Uncheck the box next to each piece that is now selected by clicking the Notes and Handouts tab.
  4. If you want to get rid of the header or footer, click Apply to All.
